A lot of people have been posting videos where their frame rate is horrible playing Minecraft, hopefully this will improve/fix people's FPS. (Before you start delete your .minecraft folder and re-download it)

Tutorial:

1: Make sure Everything is up to date on your Computer.
-Make sure windows is up to date by checking for updates.
-Importantly make sure all your drivers are up to date, mainly the graphics driver.
NVIDIA Graphics card drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
ATI: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
Intel: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect (Run this even if you have an ATI or NVIDIA graphics card because if was also check for bios updates, networking drivers, etc.)
To check what Graphics card you have click the start button and search ''dxdiag'' and go to the display tab, there you will find which graphics card you have.

2. Make sure you have the latest version of Java: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
-Download either the 32-Bit or 64-Bit, which ever one your computer is. You check this by right clicking computer and going to properties and look for system type.
-Uninstall any previous versions of Java from your computer before installing the latest one.

3. Download Optifine: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249637-145-optifine-hd-d3-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and-much-more/
-Install Optifine as you would any other mod (If you don't know how YouTube it)
-Find what settings are best for you with Optifine. If you are getting low FPS lower things like your render distance, set graphics to fast, performance: max FPS, turn off rain & snow, etc. (Example of Low settings: http://imgur.com/ahM4y,kFoXs) I have a Topic showing how to install mods in the support section also if you do not know how to do so.

4. Have no unnecessary programs open while playing Minecraft. For example Skype if your not using it.

Additional things you can do:

1. Go into your task manager by right clicking your taskbar and close all unnecessary applications that are open and you do not need. (Right click on it and ''End Task'') Also right click on Minecraft (Java(TM) Platform SE Binary) and set priority to ''high''.
2. Uninstall all unnecessary software on your computer. For example things that came with your computer when you first bought it that are not needed.
3. Regularly clean your hard drive by deleting all unnecessary things. (Program that is handy: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner)
4. Defrag your hard drive regularly (Best program in my opinion: http://www.mydefrag.com/Manual-DownloadAndInstall.html)
5. Download Razor GameBooster: http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster
6. Look up tutorials online on how to optimize windows 7 (Or whatever OS you have) for performance.
7: You can allocate more RAM to minecraft. (Results may vary, some people experience more lag):
-Open your Control Panel
-Type 'Java' inside the 'Search Control Panel' box.
-Click the Java icon that pops up.
-Click the Java tab.
-Click View...
-Change Runtime Parameters.
I have mine set to: -Xincgc -Xmx2048M

Internet:

1. Unplug your router for roughly ten seconds
2. Plug in back in and turn it back on
3. Make sure all wires are properly in, mainly the ADSL wire (Make sure this is properly in place at the wall and your router)

More will be added

Recording:

While recording please use FRAPS. It is the best software dedicated for recording games.
Free link to latest versions of FRAPS: http://frapsfull.blogspot.ie/

Main Settings: Go under the movies tab, video capture settings: 30FPS, video capture settings: half-size (Set this to full size if you have a good PC), etc.

I will be editing this when I feel the need to add more information.

5: Get a good pc/laptop, with optifine ultra installed, if I set all settings to minimum I can get over 600 fps
Or with mostly normal settings and a 32x32 pack 260 fps

Most free screen recorders are very laggy when recording games. Most of them are made to record your desktop, not games so games run very bad when recording.
Just download Fraps from here: http://frapsfull.blogspot.ie/

The problem is not many people have the money to buy a decent new pc :P

When installing optifine, be careful which one you choose. I have heard of some instances where the fps gets worse after they have installed it, either due to a bad installation or getting the wrong optifine package.

As for deleteing unneeded software and defragging, you shouldn't need an extra programme just for this, your computer has all that it needs to complete these two tasks fine, so getting additional software will only make things worse.
Why should we fear death? After all, who has lived it to tell the tale?

I would like to say that the recording for razer game booster is only 20%-30% fps drop.
I can record games like slender and tekkit with 150% the fps then without razer when not recording
Also there is no drop in fps while watching the clip in a media player.
