How to Install Minecraft Mods / Texture Packs (Windows/Mac)
« on: November 29, 2012, 04:50:48 PM »
What you will need:

-You will need some sort of archiving program such as WinRAR or 7-Zip
WinRAR: http://www.rarlab.com/
-The mod you wish to install

How to Install:

-Click your start button and click run, type in %appdata%
-You should see a list of folders and .minecraft on the top.
-Go into the folder named bin and right click on the file named ''minecraft'' and open with WinRAR
-Once WinRAR is open delete the ''meta inf'' folder
-Then open your mod with WinRAR and drag all the files into minecraft which is open with WinRAR

You should be done now, make sure your mod doesn't require Modloader: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v145-risugamis-mods-updated/

Texture Packs:

Your texture pay will require MC Patcher if it's 64x64 and up or some textures will be missing:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1496369-145-144-132-etcupdate-1110-mcpatcher-hd-fix-243-04/

Alternatively you can use Optifine:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249637-145-optifine-hd-d3-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and-much-more/

To install the texture pack:
-Download the texture you want (Do not extract it with WinRAR)
-Click your start button and click run, type in %appdata%
-You should see a list of folders and .minecraft on the top.
-You should see a texture pack folder and paste the texture pack into there.

Mac - Mods

What you will need:
-An unarchiving program. If you are running the latest OS (Mac OS X Mountain Lion), you will need to install "Unarchiver" from the Mac App Store. It is free. If you are running an older version you will be using "Archive Utility", which should be pre-installed.
-The mod you wish to install.

How to Install:

-Click the "Go" tab on the top of the screen, and then click on "Go to folder".
-Type ~/Library/Application Support into the bar that appears.
-Scroll down until you find your "minecraft" folder, go into it, then go into your "bin" folder.
-Right click on your minecraft.jar, go to the "Open with" tab, and click either Unarchiver or Archive Utility, depending on your OS as stated above (the former will automatically make a backup, the latter won't).
-Rename the folder created to "minecraft.jar".
-Move the files from your mod into your minecraft.jar folder.
-NOTE: Certain mods, normally but not always larger mods, require extra steps. Use a tutorial specific for that mod in tandem with this guide to work out how to correctly install said mods.

You should be done now, make sure your mod doesn't require Modloader: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v145-risugamis-mods-updated/

Windows 8

What you will need:

-WinRar or 7-Zip. (I suggest WinRar)
-WinRar: http://www.rarlab.com

How to install:

-Press Win + R on your keyboard. (The Win key is located between Ctrl and Alt)
-It should open this window: http://i.imgur.com/9V4h3SH.png
-As you can see, I've typed in %appdata% into the box. Type that in and press enter.
-This will open a folder called roaming, look for .minecraft in the list, when found, open it.
-Now open the bin folder located in the .minecraft folder.
-Right click on minecraft.jar and select "Open With WinRar"
-Scroll through the files and delete Meta-inf
-Drag the files from the mod you want to install into minecraft.jar
-Run Minecraft

Texture Packs:

-Follows the steps above until you are in the .minecraft folder
-Once in the .minecraft folder, look for texturepacks, once found, open it.
-Drag the Texture Pack in zip form into the texturepacks folder.
-If you do not have Optifine, run McPatcher: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1496369-13w21b-152-151update-523-mcpatcher-hd-fix-400-beta3-304/
