New Computer Specs
« on: April 12, 2013, 12:49:50 AM »
So, as a ton of people have before me - I'm going to post the specs for the computer I'm buying when I get my first paycheque.

Feel free to comment and suggest things - remember that this is a mid-range computer, not anything special. I am trying to keep the price down...

For the case I'm getting a Bitfenix Outlaw (simple and CHEAP):

Processor will be an Intel i5 3550, 3.3 GHz and a 6mb cache with a Scythe Rasetsu cooling fan. Motherboard will be an Asus P8H61-I R2.0 with DDR3 and 7.1 Audio.

For RAM I am going simple and cheap - 2x sticks of 4GB Corsair Vengeance LP.

The Harddrive will be a Seagate Barracuda 1TB, with an Asus 24x DVD-RW SATA optical drive.

And now for the most important part - the video card:

An ATI (Asus factory) Radeon 6670 HD, 2GB. For $90, not a bad deal.

This is the website I am using to construct my computer - it is a local business that A) Deserves to be supported and B) Is 2 minutes down the road from me:

Please offer your suggestions, tips and awe!! XD Joking about the awe...

If it's intended for gaming, you'd do better with a better graphics card and worse CPU, e.g. 7850 and i3-3220.

Noted, thanks :)

Question: if the motherboard has 7.1 audio listed as a feature, do I still need to get a PCI-sound card?

Ordered it today, with a few changes:

Case

with:

i3 3220 3.3 GHz
GA-Z77-HD3 motherboard, 7.1 audio, HDMI DVI and VGA outputs
Patriot Viper 3 8Gb (2x4)
XFX Radeon 7850 2Gb w/ dual DVI, dual DP and HDMI outputs
1TB Harddrive
Samsung 24x DVD-RW
and a 650W power supply to top it off...

It's got (in total):

4 USB 3.0 and 5 2.0 ports, HD audio sockets - and 3 built in 120mm (2 are blue LED) fans and 2x 80mm fans

So stoked - thanks for the advice and tips guys!

yeah, about that, when does it arrive? I've been waiting impatiently for you to get it so what's the delivery time? or do you just pick it up when it's done?
